What Should I Do About the Windows 2003 Small Business Server End Of Life?
Windows Small Business Server (SBS) was a great way to service small to medium size businesses (SMBs). It gave customers all the benefits of an Exchange messaging environment at a reasonable cost by including Microsoft Exchange with Small business Server.
Windows 2003 Small Business Server has been designated end of life by Microsoft and Microsoft will no longer be developing crucial security updates patches and no longer supporting this version of SBS. For SMBs this means a security disaster waiting to happen! This goes into effect July 14, 2015.
We also knowthat end of life for Windows Small Business Server 2008 & 2011 will be soon to come. Microsoft has developed a replacement of this product in Office 365. Office 365 is a product which is ideal for small to medium size businesses. It includes an added additional piece which in my mind makes even more sense than switching to an on premise exchange server; specifically Office 365 gives the consumer software assurance for the full Microsoft Office suite included in the yearly subscription.
