What should your Server Room look like?

Maintaining a clean and tidy server room will decrease systems downtime, decrease the time it takes to troubleshoot infrastructure issues, increase network and server performance and increase the productivity of your user community. Before - What a mess!A wire jungle - how do you keep track of what goes where?

So how do you do this?  Simply follow these steps:

  1. Clear all cardboard boxes and all non IT related equipment from the server room.

  2. If the floor is carpeted have the carpet removed and install an antistatic tile floor.  Avoid having those dust bunnies in the first place!

  3. Install a dedicated cooling system in the room.

  4. All cabling connected to the IT equipment should be in good shape, clean, labeled and tidy.

After - neat, tidy and functional. Doesn't it look beautiful?
